If you plan on decorating your house this holiday season, consider these safety tips from the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA). Their data shows that there an estimated 240 fires involving Christmas trees and 150 fires involving holiday lights each year. Following these fire safety tips can help ensure that you don’t run into any trouble this Christmas.

The USFA provides a video that compares what happens to a dry tree versus a high moisture tree when they are touched by fire. The dry tree was engulfed in flames, while the maintained, wet tree didn’t catch on fire. In addition, they suggest that one should select a tree with needles that are green and hard to pull from the branches. Needles that easily fall off indicate an old tree thats dried up, which can be a fire hazard.

The article provides many different things to consider when if you decide to decorate your home. Remember that homeowner’s insurance can cover your property in case a tree or decoration fire does happen. We hope that you end the year on a good note, and that you have a safe and happy holiday season!
